World Humanitarian Day – 50 years of serving humanity
VIENNA, 19 August 2023 – Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council founder and President, Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Sri Swami Maheshwaranandaji, known as Vishwaguruji, is marking over 50 years of serving humanity on today’s World Humanitarian Day.
Millions of students and practitioners at his Yoga in Daily Life centres and ashrams worldwide, selflessly follow the initiated humanitarian path by contributing regularly towards the fulfilment of dedicated projects, which is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, including the following projects established in India:
• Rainwater harvesting: The Desert Rainwater Harvesting Initiative is aimed at alleviating poverty and providing a reliable water supply to some of the most remote populations in rural Rajasthan, who have been in the grip of severe drought for the last four years. The project utilises traditional Rainwater Harvesting techniques to provide a sustainable model for use in drought-affected areas throughout the world;
• Sri Swami Madhavananda Austria Hospital: The Sri Swami Madhavananda Austria Hospital Project in India offers compassionate service to the sick and needy, promotes a holistic approach to health care and fosters high standards in health-related education and research; aiming to provide adequate medical services for local people;
• Jadan school: The Shree Vishwa Deep Gurukul Senior Secondary Vidyalaya (Jadan School) is located in the state of Rajasthan, in northern India, in the district of Pali, nestled near the village of Jadan. The school is within the Om Vishwa Deep Gurukul Swami Maheshwarananda Ashram Education & Research Centre – an international epicentre of learning, based on the precepts of Yoga, and the largest Yoga in Daily Life ashram in India and the world;
• Education for Women: The Jadan Ashram is host to residential education programs for women. Graduates of the programs are able to act as advisors within their local community on matters of child development, hygiene and on the education and development of girls up until their maturity;
• Animal Refuge: The Ashram has established several animal refuges under the name, Om Shree Deveshwar Mahadev Gaushala, which provides humane veterinary care, particularly for several hundred old, homeless and sick cattle;
• Reforestation: The Jadan Ashram has a long-term project of reforestation. To date, approximately 200,000 trees have been planted locally, in a bid to 'turn the desert green'.
As Vishwaguruji is often stating: “helping hands are better than folded hands” and this is also the motto of this year’s World Humanitarian Day.
Thank you for being an active part of the half-century of humanitarianism. We still have a lot of work to do together.
